Local people say that the city of Ayodhya, which does not know how many years remained the center of controversy, has been decorated so beautifully for the first time today. Ayodhya has been the center of controversy for years. After more than 100 years of legal and political fight, finally the construction of Ram temple for Ramlala will be started today. On November 9, 2019, a 5-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court gave its verdict. The Supreme Court had said in the judgment that the Sunni Waqf Board has not been able to prove its ownership over the disputed land. At the same time, in the report given by the Archaeological Department, the evidence of having a temple there has been presented. However, the Supreme Court also said that the Archaeological Department has not been able to tell whether a mosque was built after demolishing a temple there. The Supreme Court also ordered the Muslim side to give 5 acres of land away from the disputed site to build a mosque.
Ayodhya Timeline: Complete history of controversy in Ayodhya:
- 1528: A mosque was built at such a place in Ayodhya. People of the Hindu community believe that Lord Ram was born there. It is said that Mughal emperor Babur had built this mosque which is called Babri Masjid.
- 1853: For the first time there was a dispute between the two communities on this issue.
- In 1885, Mahant Raghubar Das demanded from the court that the temple be allowed to be built on the platform. But,This demand was rejected.
- 1946: Controversy between Shias and Sunnis over Babri Masjid. Babur was Sunni, so the verdict went against the Shias.
- 1949: In July, the state government started an exercise to build a Ram temple on the Ram platform outside the mosque. But it also failed.
- 1949: Statues of Ram Sita and Laxman were kept in the mosque on 22-23 December.
- 1949: On December 29, the property of the temple was attached and the receiver was placed there.
- 1950: A new phase of court battle for this land begins. All the claimants of the land were from 1950 onwards in this trial.
- 1950: On January 16, Gopal Das Visharad Court and said that the idols should not be removed from there and the worship should be continued without interruption. The court said that the idols will not be removed, but the lock will remain closed and only the priest will worship. The public will see from outside.
- 1959: Nirmohi Akhara reached the court and presented a claim.
- 1961: The Sunni Central Waqf Board also reached the court and presented a claim for the mosque.
- 1986: On 1 February, Faizabad district judge allowed the worship of the birthplace to be opened.
- 1986: It was decided to form Babri Masjid Action Committee against this decision of the court.
- 1989: VHP leader Devkinandan Aggarwal filed a case for the temple claim on behalf of Ramlala.
- 1989: In November, the foundation stone of the Ram temple was laid a little away from the mosque.
- 1990: On 25 September, BJP leader LK Advani started a rath yatra from Somnath. This journey was to go to Ayodhya. This rath yatra created a passion in the entire country. As a result, riots broke out in Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Many areas were hit by curfew.
- 1990: But Advani got Lalu Yadav arrested in Bihar on 23 October.
- 1990: Karsevak climbed the dome of the mosque and broke the dome. Saffron hoisted there. After this, riots broke out.
- 1991: General elections were held in June and BJP government was formed in UP.
- 1992: Karseva was announced in the Parliament of Religions on 30–31 October.
- 1992: In November, Kalyan Singh gave an affidavit to protect the mosque in the court.
- 1992: On December 6, millions of kar sevaks demolished the Babri Masjid. Karsevak ascended the dome of the mosque at 11.50 am. The third dome of the mosque also fell at around 4.30 pm.
- 2003: Allahabad High Court carried out excavation at the place of dispute to find out if there was a Ram temple there.
- 2005: Terrorist attack took place here. But the terrorists could not do any harm there and were killed.
- 2010: On September 30, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court passed the order and decided to distribute the disputed land in Ayodhya equally to Ram Lala Virajman, Nirmohi Akhara and Sunni Waqf Board, which have all challenged in the Supreme Court.
- 2019: On 8 March, the Supreme Court decided to settle the matter through negotiations and formed a three-member Arbitration Committee for this. The committee is headed by Justice Khalifulla, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Shriram Panchu.
- 2019: On November 9, the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Hindus and handed over the entire disputed land. The Muslim side was also ordered to give mosques away from this place.
- 2020: On 5 August, a program of Bhoomi Pujan was held for the Ram temple. In which PM Modi, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Governor Anandi Ben Patel and CM Yogi Adityanath have been allowed to sit on the stage as the chief guest.
